On March 1, 2003, service and benefit functions of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) transitioned into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as US Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS).  The USCIS which can be found online at:  http://www.uscis.gov/ outlines their E-Verify system which is free to employers and lets them know the employment eligibility of new applicants/employees.
